About Us

A warm welcome from Ellie de Lacy and many thanks for taking the time to visit my new look web site. I hope that I may interest you in the field of Equine, Wildlife and Pet Portraits and Miniature Animal Portraits for both your house and your Dolls House.

My interest in miniatures began in 1999 when I built my first Dolls House Emporium ‘Manor House’ but found great difficulty in sourcing appropriate wall decoration. I’d been painting pet portraits since leaving school, so I thought I’d give miniatures a go. The joy of seeing finished, framed paintings adorning the walls of the ‘Manor House’ encouraged me to try different paints and materials. I believe the use of either Gouache or Watercolour on Ivorine or Vellum are the ideal media for my Miniature Animal Portraits.

2003 was a major turning point for me, not only with the sale of my very first Miniature Animal Portrait "Duke of Ancaster's Bay Stallion" but as the Winner of the Dolls House Emporium "Build-it" Competition. My winning entry is shown above and more details, including the runners-up can be seen by clicking here.

In 2006 I was thrilled to be awarded accreditation by the Hilliard Society (www.art-in-miniature.org). To earn this award I needed to have 3 of my miniature paintings accepted for their annual international exhibition in Wells, Somerset, 2 years on the trot.

At the moment my speciality is equine, wildlife and pet portraits. I have reproduced works by the artist George Stubb's which provide an ideal complement to Georgian and Victorian style houses. I’ve also reproduced works by Landseer, Gainsborough, Wootton and Reynolds in miniature.

All original miniature paintings and prints are either 1/12th or 1/24th scale, framed and a Certificate of Authenticity accompanies original paintings and limited edition prints.  With regard to larger paintings, you choose the size and I’ll try to accommodate that to my best abilities.

As well as painting miniatures, I make art materials for the budding “miniature” artist and I’m expanding my range to include more and more 1/24th scale items alongside the usual 1/12th scal.

By popular demand this year I’ve finally got around to increasing my range of books to include older titles from as far back as the 17th century. These “antique” books, which are bound by stitching the pages together just like the real thing, are proving incredibly popular and I always seems to be making more stock. I’ve also included some “solid” or “false” books which are a cheaper way of filling up those book shelves but, at the same time, not sacrificing the quality.  I source materials from bookbinding suppliers to keep these as close to the real thing as possible
