Cromwell was born at Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire in 1599, the son of a small landowner. He entered Parliament in 1629 and became active in events leading to the Civil War. A leading Puritan figure, he raised cavalry forces and organised the New Model Army, which he led to victory over the Royalists at the Battle of Naseby in 1645. Failing to gain agreement on constitutional change in government with Charles I, Cromwell was a member of a ‘Special Commission’ that tried and condemned the king to death in 1649. Cromwell declared Britain a republic ‘The Commonwealth’ and he went on to become its Lord Protector. Cromwell went on to crush the Irish clans and the Scots loyal to Charles II between 1649 and 1651. In 1653 he finally expelled the corrupt English parliament and with the agreement of army leaders became Lord Protector (King in all but name)

Known as the ‘First Gentleman of Europe’. He had a love of art and architecture but his private life was a mess, to put it mildly! He married twice, once in 1785 to Mrs. Fitzherbert, secretly as she was a Catholic, and then in 1795 to Caroline of Brunswick. Mrs. Fitzherbert remained the love of his life. Caroline and George had one daughter, Charlotte in 1796 but she died in 1817. George was considered a great wit, but was also a buffoon and his death was hailed with relief!

This item is from Ellie's personal collection. It is an exquisit Art Nouveau floor standing standard lamp on a Marble Effect plinth.
Purchased from Key Miniatures in Thame it has never been used and the artist is sadly unknown. Whilst this does not fit in with Ellie's Regency dolls house it will be an exceptional addition to an Arts & Crafts/Art Nouveau/Lutyens¹ style dolls house.

"Red spider lilies are one of the more well known flowers in the anime community. Mainly because Tokyo Ghoul used it as representation. First to understand why red spider lilies made their guest appearance, you have to know the symbolism of the flower. One of the roles of red spider lilies are to ward away animals from fresh graves. Yet not only does the flower contain deadly poison, it was said to represent the "other side," or afterlife. The blood red color supposedly helps create a path for souls to move on from the living world to the "other side." Another story explains that red spider lilies represent lovers or people who are destined to never meet again. It is said that when two people say their last goodbyes, a red spider lily would sprout between them. Apart from the death theme that this flower carries, it also represents the change from hot summer days to chilly autumn."

Description:

When my husband, Neil, bought me my first dolls house, he suggested I keep a scrapbook/journal about everything to do with that dolls house. It was a way of keeping track of which miniature artisan had made pieces, eg furniture, and how much I was spending. I could make room plans and add photos and samples of wallpaper. It became a history of a dolls house.

When I started making miniature books I decided to find out how books are actually made to make my miniature books look as real as possible. It has taken years of study and practice in traditional bookbinding, creating makeshift tools to suit 1/12^th scale. During the Covid-19 pandemic I thought I’d do something creative with the extra time I had and I thought “How about making a dolls house journal using the bookbinding skills I had learned over the years, but in full 1:1 scale.”

So this is what I’ve made. An A5 book with various types of blank pages; lined, plain, graph paper; something that will fit in a bag to carry along with you to dolls house shows. I’ve incorporated pockets with mini cards for jotting down quick ideas, and a pocket envelope at the back containing an A6 notebook. I have made these journals with plenty of expanding space so that you can add photos, and other collage material and it will still close properly. I’ve split the sections into different categories; outside, room plans, interiors, research, and an appendix for field notes as well as an inventory and wish list.
